oil change in frount dampers

hi i saw on here some where that you could change the oil in the frount
dampers without taking them off so i undone the drain bolt and took a
valve out and got about a thimble full of oil out ,so undone the screws on
the top removed the plate siefound out wot i could i had allready bounced
and lifted the suspension and could not work out wot i should of done and
woundered if i had any oil ways blocked .i then filled it with petrol to thin
the oil when i came to it to day it was empty but im now woundering how
will the oil get to the bottem part ? and how do other people do it? and is there a correct persedure to do any of this?

Getting a tiny bit of oil out is normal, often much of it has leaked or congealed. Try filling it with clean oil, bouncing it and then draining again. I'd do this a few times as you've put petrol in there which will reak havoc with the seals.

I'm afraid the petrol was NOT a good idea!! Flush them through very thoroughly with new oil. And then I suggest you drain and refill again in a few days time. Bouncing is the way to do it - the oil (if there was any left in the dampers) usually runs out well enough.

mine were full of oil under the top plate i just could not get it to come out by bouncing i have re filled with oil and have been bouncing and left it till tomorow to see if it will seep down
how many bounces does it normaly take to bleed through an can i
get an air lock in there

It can take ages to bleed them through, and yes there will be air in there, best to bounce out as much as possible, drive it and top in a day or two.

Not done job this for a while - but my memory is that the ghastly/smelly old oil ran out quite freely - the bouncing was to pump out more after the initial flow. Make sure the valve assembly comes out complete when you remove the plug - but I think the first bounce would expell it anyway!
