Pops out of second gear!

Help!
Bought a cheap minor the other day, didn't test drive it cos it had no brakes. Now got the brakes done but the gearbox is very sloppy and it always pops out of second.
Any ideas?

Get on ebay or ask on here for a decent used box. Yours is on it's way out and rebuild kits are either not available or very hard to get these days....

Yet - final signs of gearbox failure. Is it a 948 engine - or a 1098 ? The 1098 has a 'ribbed case' gearbox which is very much improved over the original 'smooth case' box. Although the later box can be fitted to the early 948 engine - it's not an absolutely straight swap.
