Hello everyone,
I am buying a convertible. The owner have given to me a copy of the V5. The year of manufacturing is 1960-61 (I check it from the chassis number). But I don't understand ( I am French, you remember...) why the fist date of registration in UK is 1983? Have I any way to find out the exact manufacturing date and what did happen with the car between 61 and 83?
Thanks a lot for your answers.
Friendly.
date of first registration different than year of manufactur

Date of registration in UK means nothing. It was probably imported in 83 which is why is was first registered then... Is it a UK car or made for overseas markets? DVLA and Gaydon Heritage can give you build information and owner trace information so you can build a history of the car.

It the car was not on the road in the mid 1970's the registratiion may have been lost (when they changed from paper to computerised records)
If the car was put back on the road in the 80's and the original paperwork had been lost this could have created the 'first registerd' date.
However, as already mentioned - if it was imported (e.g. UK spec car from channel islands) this would also explain the 1980's first registration date.

Ditto if ex Forces car - although unlikely with a Convertible!
Does the Registration number tie in with the build date ? Should be ABC 123 (or perhaps 123 ABC) format - no extra letter before or after the main set. Car should also have clap-hands wipers - and 948 engine. Is it a genuine convertible - or a converted 2 door saloon ??

If the Reg No. has an 'A' suffix, the original number has been sold. Re-registered vehicles (due to the original green log book being surrendered for a V5) had an age-related plate. If it was re-registered in 1983 it would have a 3-letter & 3 number combination. the letters would contain the letters SV or SU (mine has).
The V5C should contain "declared manufactured xxxx".
