Leakey Traveller

Post by millerman »

There is a fair old water leak at the cab/aluminium roof join on my traveller:

1. is there a way of easily ? removing the rubber seal without removing the aluminium roof?

2. failing that is there a suitable sealant I could use on the rubber seal 'in situ'

3. when replacing the rubber seal is it worthwhile using a silicon-type sealer

I think you can do it by dropping the headlining and undoing the bolts holding the ally bit to the steel bit, pulling the old seal out, forcing the new one in, making the holes for the bolts and doing it all back up again!

Personally I would try and get some dum dum under the seal, or even windscreen sealant but you would be lucky to get it off ever again

Keep silicone away - or you will never get paint to stick again!

Make a long "sausage" of Dum Dum and gentally lift up the rubber seal both front and back of the roof and feed it under. Press the roof rubber hard down on the Dum Dum and tidy off excess. Keep and eye on it and pay particular attention to the point where the roof rubber meets the guttering. :D

I used windscreen sealant in mine, works a treat and if you finish with a silicon joint mould it looks neat too.Never had rain inside the car yet.
