Question about the seats...

Post by psjorge »

Hi,

The restoration of my Minor (a 4-door saloon, built in January 1954) has been standing for a while, waiting for the seat covers to arrive. Eventually they did only to realize that something does not add up...

These are the seats that came with the car:

After dismantling I ended up with these frames...

I believe that the front seats are not original because the design doesn't match any of the several ones used during the car's production and the facings are not leather. The rear seats I'm not so sure...

However, from what I could gather, the seats used on my car should have the same design as used on MM's, the pattern changed only in October '54.

This said, I ordered from Newton Commercial a set of seat covers with what I believe should be the correct pattern and colour ( maroon with beije piping to contrast with the black exterior).

However the front seat covers do not seam to fit the frames! The covers for the cushions are somewhat rounded and the frames are straight and, on the other hand, the frame is a single metal structure uniting the squab and cushion but the covers seam to be design for a separate frame design?

Can someone please give an insight on this?

Many thanks,
Pedro
