respraying

Post by luridhue »

I have finally decided upon a new colour for the minor (indy). It will be done after a few other ideas I have. Will there be any problems with finish between aluminium and steel? It is a metallic red. Anyone have any experience of a complete respray done by themselves?

Should be no problem at all so long as the prep is the same on both.

You need to realise that aluminium and steel if in contact, promote corrosion due dis-similar metals !

Thanks for the heads up BMC, although I am acutely aware of electrolytic corrosion. The Defender in my signature had lots of it! I'll be separating the aluminium and steel very definitively.

Bare alloy just like steel will need a n etch primer, other than that shouldnt be a problem.
Indy is the cars name? Much nicer than me calling it Shed for 10years!

lol, cheers Rod. It came after a friend of callums commented on how often I left the indicators on! (No idea why, no car I've owned previously had self-cancelling indicators and neither do the motorbikes but for some reason I am always leaving them on.)
