Finally...got my car home

Well, after a wait of 3 months and a bill of around £1400

I have finally got my moggy home.
I got it last Thursday and it runs beautifully. Looks it too (worth the elbow grease and T-Cut).
The only bad bits are the rear offside wing isn't the best looking, but only bad close up. Also it has developed a slight wheel wobble on the front left wheel so we'll sort that in time. There is a small bit of the fabric missing that holds the window still so that rattles when up fully.
Apart from that, I drove it all Saturday with no problems and I must say, its wonderful. Unfortunately, I haven't been available to attend the MMOC meetings every month (the next one I can is May) but I will hopefully be going to the Cambridge museum with the club.

Another thing, I drove 'Fiona' to the local supermarket and funnily enough, saw another one. I very original (and slightly rusty) 4 door and later on in the day, a 2 door in a grey/creamy colour. Theyre everywhere now!
Is the 4door anybodys on here? Just wondering.

That is funny about seeing another minor at the supermarket all right. You don't often expect it but when you do it is a very welcome and pleasant sight.

I thought that too, on the first proper drive out as well.
And Mal, I can understand but I bought it instead of a small modern car for the character, the fun and the running costs so why not use it like I would a modern car. Also it has a few scratches on for the moment and a couple more wouldn't bother me too much. ;)
In all the classics we saw on its first day out were - one 2dr moggy, one 4dr and an Aston Martin DB6. Waved at the Aston driver but not being a fun-loving character, he just drove on

I took our daughter's 18th birthday surprise first ever car to Halfords car park last week to get her a CD/radio, and cleverly (so I thought) parked it away in the far corner on its own to avoid 'supermarket dings'. While I was sitting in the passenger seat installing the radio a 'lady' in her 30s roared up in a newish but filthy Fiesta, decided she liked the look of the space to the left of mine, parked on the right side of her space so there wasn't much room to open the door, then just banged her door open against mine. I was sitting there looking at her with my mouth open but she just gave me a filthy look before turning on her heel and marching off. I think I might have accidentally elbowed her mirror when I got out, can't be sure of that though.

She was stomping off too quickly. It's a Punto with a few 'character' scratches already, maybe she thought she was making an artistic contribution to the paint scheme or something. I'm trying to stay calm as I approach the mid-afternoon of my life but it would have been different if it had been the Moggy I can assure you. I don't think she would have noticed the wing mirror being at a new angle, she didn't strike me as the wing-mirror-using type.

Thanks, I'm quite liking the colour of your moggy. I agree, if someone had of done that to mine while I was in the car, I would've said something, or made sure they knew about it, just not through criminal damage! (accidentally on purpose maybe)
And no, those sort of people don't tend to use them. :p

I think it's because they all start to come out in Spring

Aah, possibly. When touring in the classic we are looking after, we notice they all start appearing. Don't know why, we use ours even in the winter with the top down ;) (wrapped up however)

Was the repair bill more than expected?

Mine has had a good run at the weekend - longest yet in our ownership - nice to travel at a more sedate pace than I am used to

I sure am glad.
When looking for a car, I had a rough budget of just over £2000 which is what I've spent overall for and on the car.
It was perhaps a touch bit more but considering it, there was alot of little jobs done and alot of time. Its still original, but things like a steam clean underneath and under the bonnet, a new caburettor, exhaust, master cylinder have been replaces.
I am happy with it and although I can't afford it right now, my parents have offered to loan me the money until a bond matures and I pass my driving test and can start working to pay them back, not working for lessons.

I can't wait for a long journey in mine. We are planning to go to Cornwall as a family in the Summer but I will go with my cousin and take a couple of days camping then go down. Should be nice

If that money had been put into a new new or modern runabout, you'd have lost it through depreciation abooooout ..... now

You're being quite generous on how long it would take to lose in depreciation. Its just silly money now.
Glad I did, expensive year but fortunately with the help of parents, I can save money in the future on insurance and running costs and depreciation.

Thanks. Im quite proud of the polishing I have done and am very appreciative of the work that both my Dad and the garage lads did on it.
It looks good from outside and looking at other Minors for sale around £1500-2000, is extremely good underneath - solid as anything.
