No - you don't HAVE to have a spare! Some new cars come with a little bottle of gas + sealer to fix punctures! However - it would seem wise to have a good working spare in the car!

I agree totally with you - people on this site are truly amazing

a few people saw it on Ebay back in November. Closer inspections will be taking place at the weekend and next week. At least they will know what to look for

Maybe I could have a Spring "Minor Wheel Garden Party". Get as many people as possible to bring all wheel things and I'll supply the tea/coffee and obligatory chocolate hob-nobs. Plenty of room here to park and at the end of the day the local tip is only about a mile away. We could all swop/buy/give and then dump.

Having a Minor is all pretty new to me but it has already started to change my life

OK - the good news is the nuts are not fitted backwards - they are tapered both ends. No camera at the moment so I can't take pics of wheel - to me all wheels look the same

I'll get back once Charlie has had a look on Saturday - he's only a mile away so I'm sure it will get there! I won't be going anywhere else in it till I know its all fixed. Its really good to know you all have "safety" in mind. My tree surgeon son suggests I fit tracks on it like a stump grinder then I wouldn't have to worry!!!!! Er...... I won't be going anywhere in my van without a spare wheel any time soon.

I have a spare, its the wrong size, but its a spare...... (I have 175/65/13s on and a standard minor rim in the boot) and I have a can of tyreweld...

Not ideal, and I'm not sure it would be legal, but it'd be enough to get me home at least

Paint the wheel rim red or yellow and put a "50mph / 80kph Max" sticker on it and you'll be fine..... Most manufacturers get away with doing it anyway

When I manage to change all my wheels to standard ones you could have one of my 13" wheels. Am I correct in thinking that 14" are standard and wouldn't bigger wheels mean more mpg? Remember I'm a beginner so Hopefully this isn't a dumb question

Thanks for the offer Ani, I have a spare 13", its just too wide to fit under the boot floor!

It depends what tyres you have fitted. Loosely speaking, a smaller wheel gives better acceleration and lower topspeed and at a given speed the engine will be revving harder.

Therefore bigger wheels means slower acceleration, higher top speed and better economy at any given speed.

It is possible to buy tyres for a 13" that will give approx the same rolling radius as the standard wheels 175/75/13 gives a 0.9% difference

Standard is 14" - with 145 x 14 tyres fitted. 155 x 14 can also be used on the standard rims although it's 'pushing the limit'. Yes - larger wheels/tyres will help mpg slightly - but you really need to change the final drive ratio to make a significant effect.
