A belt driven fan will drag some power at high revs
Doesn't the engine turn the fan all the time?
The only time it is doing anything useful is when you are more or less stationary.
The rest of the time it need power to turn it.

? Advice was being sought, and I gave my views. So who actually deviated?

To clarify, my mods would be/are,

1275 engine, Ford disc brakes, Marina wheels and back axle, type 9 - 5 speed gear box, telescopic shock absorbers, and Newton Commercial seats.

Job done :D

I believe in driving them, not playing with them

Rear lights on the Traveller can be made MUCH brighter by simply cutting a little collar of 'shiny chrome plastic' and slipping it behind the bulb. Very inexpensive - and very effective.

I wouldnt be putting anything on my car that couldnt be bought or replaced with a new one. i.e. marina bits and bobs are great but can you get bits for axles etc over the counter? Ifford disc brakes on the frontthen why not keep th ford stud pattern and and put an escort rear axle in ???
I would def update the elights, front and rear, brakes, front and rear, retractable seatbelts and proper front deats with headrests.
cheers, michael.

Dave, where are you. I have a set of halogen lights with Xenon bulbs fitted that are for sale. Excellent lights for dark nights. PM me.
