My new Morrie

Post by bouncingoffthewalls »

Hello peoples...

Well i am a very new morrie owner... purchased a 1962 2 door Morris Minor, unlicensed for $3000(AUS). Has new brakes, great tyres...

Its all in original condition, original paint.. nothing done to it at all!!
Now the scary part!! i have only seen it in pics.. i live in the North West of Western Australia and its approximatley 1850kms away!

Good news is it is on a truck on its merry way to me!

i am so excited i am bouncing off the walls!

however i am still a little nervous on the whole not seen it before thing!!

so i have attatched some pics and am wanting your thoughts on my purchase!!

good?? bad??
what would you fix first..

Hi and welcome to Moggy, or Morrie ownership and the forum.

What needs fixing? you obviously dont have the rust problems we have over here, your new purchase looks beautiful. Is there any rust?

I can see you're going to have a much easier time than me. Just look over everthing and see if anything needs work and ask any questions as they come up.

thanks guys... you have seen as much as i have...
it is arriving here either tomorrow or the next day and i am
beyond excited!!
will have to have a good look underneath for rust, but i dont think theres much there!!
The only other thing that i have noticed from the pics is there is a bit of oil on the engine, so not too sure if there is a leak or not! !

Am thinking i will start with a really good clean out and then slowly start recovering seats, inside panels and flooring...
and am tempted to leave it at that...

unless something mechanical comes up!!

anyone put two childrens booster seats in the back!!!
thats also something i am looking into!!

Childrens seats fit great in the back Karen. My wife uses ours daily to move our 2 kids around. You just need to get rear belts fitted which any garage / mechanic can do easily....

Hi Karen

Congratulations on your new Morry. It must have been just about the last one off the Australian production line (unless it is an import).

Looks really nice.

Will you keep it original?

What use do you have in mind for it. Shopping trolley, Sunday picnics, club outings, ...?

Don't worry about oil leaks. Its just telling you it hasn't run out of oil yet.

Your neighbour in Oz (Just a few thousand Ks away).

We currently have a prado... but this will be the car i take to work three times a week and maybe putt about in when my other half takes the prado on a fishing trip.
Am wanting to keep it original... probably just updating the inside a little if needed!! Restore it in an original looking way!!

there is a plate on the car stating it came from winterbottom??? am assuming this is a perth car dealer from the 60's!

i have bought some great bright red with white spots material to make some seat covers!! LOL!

we have three young boys so hopefully i will be able to pop two car seats in the back and one booster in the front!

the ultimate family car!!

i so hope it comes tomorrow!!

Looks good, used but tidy which is what you want. Just a bit of a clean up around the engine bay which is the part that usually gets neglected. A little bit of oil leaking from the engine is good. Its called chassis lubrication, it stops the underneath from rusting.

Thanks mike for the good news about the oil leak!!

was considering re painting the engine green.

Have also bought a degreaser to give her a good clean when she
gets here.

Previous owner has changed sparks and topped up oil and petrol so hopefully she should be purring when i get her...

dont quite know how i am going to sleep tonight!!

Sorry about pics...
resized incase they were too big - some sites tell you off for lots of big pics...
didnt want to get you all grumpy with me on my first day!
LOL!!
I will post some bigger pics when she/he gets here!

My other major concern at the moment is what to name she/he!!

i took me four weeks to name my last child, this is going to be a nightmare!!!
