Spotted in Pembrokeshire

Post by Ondergard »

Anyone got an opinion on whether this looks restorable?

I passed it going through a village in my patch (Pembrokeshire) the other day. The next time I went past I just happened to have a camera in the car, and took these snaps. As you can see, the view wasn\'t unrestricted because of the wall.

Had a chat with the guy whose garden it is in. The car\'s his brother-in-law\'s who drove it down to Pembs three years ago intending to restore it, but it has sat in the garden doing nothing ever since. He might be open to offers, apparently.
Couldn\'t look underneath, or inside, so don\'t know the extent of damage.

I have to say, I'm not going to make an offer. I don't have the time or expertise to restore it, but it would be interesting to hear the views of more experienced - no, I mean experienced - people!

Yes, anything is restorable but the question would be "how much would it cost". Its likely that the floors, cills, crossmember etc would all need replacing and then it gets expensive !!

Looks quite good that. Of course they always look nice 'on top', the swines.

If thats your 'patch' you're very close to Ireland. Is there any sense in importing classics from over there? Is the grass any greener or are theirs as bad as ours?

It would certainly be closer than a lot of the cars for sale in the UK, for me anyway (although you would have to factor in ferry costs to get them from Ireland) as I live about ten minutes from the ferry terminal at Pembroke Dock - I can watch the Irish Ferries leaving as I walk my dogs!

The interesting thing for me, as I prepare to take the plunge into ownership for the first time in thirty+ years, is that yesterday I met two people at a St David's Day service who are very interesting. The first guy - the husband of our new local Baptist minister - restores classic cars for a living, or rather did so in Cambridge until they moved here in September (same time as I did)! The other guy, who I'd never met before, is one of the Elders of the Baptist Chapel, is a retired RAF Air Sea Rescue chappie, and owns a Morris which he used as a runaround until 1983, then pushed it into the garage with the intention of rewstoring it when he retired. He also has a spare engine, gearbox, suspension bars. clutch, four doors (4-door doors, and his is a 2 door) amd other bits and pieces.... and he's a qualified motor mechanic, as well...

I love it when a plan comes together, because I'm off to see a morris in Oxfordshire on Friday - it's on the for sale page of this messageboard!!

Baptists and Minors... funny I always saw them as more catholic or C of E. Nuns and vicars and the like.

Theres something poetic about buying a Morris from Oxfordshire. Its like the car will be flying the nest of its spiritual home.
