chassis number does not quite match v5

Post by ssnjimb »

Hello Folks.

When sorting out the documents and reciepts into a folder for bluey we noticed the chassic number does not match the one on the car.

Some of the numbers and letters look similar for example a 5 could look like S and an A like a H

What can i do in this situation.

Assuming that they are just typo's and nothing sinsiter you make the changes on your V5, send an accompanying letter explaining and DVLA correct your docs and send them back to you. Lots of typo's occured when they transferred everything to computer from local offices so small mistakes are not unknown...

This happened to my sister a few years ago I think a typo to the chassis no was made when the v5 was renewed for a change of address & wasn't picked up until she went to tax it as it didn't match the no on the MOT certificate (pre computerised)& had to have the car inspected by the dvla to confirm its identity, chassis no etc

I photo copied the original log book and the Heritage Certificate, filled in the relevent part of the registration document and took them to the local DVLA office who sent them to Swansea. If you dont have the documentation you could photograph the chassis plate.

It's common for these to be wrong on the logbook. A later minor 2-door for example should be MA2S5 then seven numbers and finally an M. The code means Morris, 2-door, A-series engine, Saloon, mark 5 (mark 4 being the original Mini).
