Having more or less got the engine and electrics connected I decided to have a trial run of the engine to make sure everything was OK.
I carefully reconnected the battery and turned on the ignition. The fuel pump started it's reassuring heart beat. Then it slowed down but kept on clicking. I checked the carbs nothing was coming out of the overflows. All the fuel hoses were dry, but the pump kept on clicking. Finally I looked under the car to see a pool of petrol.
The steel fuel line was leaking like a sieve. I didn't think I had disturbed it in the rebuild. So I cut the pipe and made a temporary repair so that I could get on.
When I turned it back on the fuel line started to pour petrol out at three other places! I guess its a good thing that it happened then and not on the road next week.
Finally I disconnected the pump and tried to start the engine. Nothing happened not even a click! On investigation the earth on the starter relay is right at the front of the loom where the lights have their earth connection. ( what a silly place for it!) and I haven't finished that bit yet.
At this point I gave up for the night and shut the garage door.
Looking back into the garage this was the view and everything felt a little better!
