Riley and Wolseley 1500 axles

Post by leyther8008 »

Did they use the same halfshafts as a minor? if so do they have stronger ones? or are they even more prone to snapping because of the higher torque.
Having snapped my first one over the weekend I,m thinking about future replacements I should start looking for because if I hadnt bought my spare pair a while ago I'd have been stuck.
I'll see you on the otherside'!

Same old shafts - could argue they would have an even harder life in the W 1500/R 1.5 due to increased weight - and increased power of these vehicles. However - they did have lower ratio (numerically) diffs which would ease the applied torque slightly!

When I was younger I had a Riley 1.5 and I sufferred a broken half shaft and so did a couple of pals probably down to the ways of driving when you are younger so if you want stronger ones you will either have to get some hardened oned or the super strong ones made from a better grade EN steel but they are not cheap.

I've broken more Riley/Wolseley shafts (and diffs) than I care to recall. However, when I changed to Minor ones, they seemed to last longer - more than likely due to not having had such a hard life.
If it were me, I'd change to a different axle completely - Ford preferably.
