When's my car's Birthday?

Post by rcbowman »

So, my Minor is turning fifty this year, and since I like having excuses to bake fancy chocolate desserts, I'd like to try to figure out when its birthday is, more or less.

People here seem not to like to disclose full chassis numbers, though from this side of the pond I'm not clear what is being protected thereby. Anyway, I guess I'll x out the last two digits. Still ought to narrow it down pretty far.

It's M/A 2S3L 7462xx

It's a left-hand drive car, originally built as an export, so presumably never registered in the UK. (I'm not ccertain whether they shipped them whole or as kits to the US at this period.)

The closest information I've found so far is from Ray Newell's book, which says that chassis 705622 was made in March 1959 and 750470 was made in August. This would put a 746xxx in July or August, presumably. Does anyone have access to actual numbers and dates around this period?

All just for fun of course, but one must have something besides the economy to obsess over, mustn't one?
1959 Morris Minor 1000 2-door saloon with (apparently) 1275 engine, LHD.

You could purchase a Heritage Certificate which will show the exact date that your car was built / left the factory:
