Nice reg number and has an uprated heater. If you enlarge the photos though it looks like there is quite a lot of rust bubbling on the wings, particularly the nearside rear.

Give it a really good checking over for rust, particularly the wings and doors. It might just have had a quick 'blowover' paint job to make it look good but could be hiding a lot of rust. The fact that there is no 'coachline' painted on suggests that it's had a respray at some point.

Hmmm.. interesting... the dealer has just emailed saying they are selling the blue (exchange and mart ad) as she is as they don't have time to do the work on her... seems awfully pricey for a car that can't be driven?!!!!

Sorry to further confuse the issue but don't put much stock in an MOT.
Its almost as easy to get an MOT on a bad car as it is a good one.

Most important imo is that you check the sill area underneath the car and the area where the rear springs attach. Any rust in here is expensive to remedy and usually 10 times as bad as it looks, often spelling the death of the poor car.
When you open the doors there'll be a metal cover plate visible. Whats the area surrounding this like? Has it been glued together with crud or is it all nice and clean?

Thanks dunketh, the one I saw last night did look good at the metal coverplate but was too dark to see too much underneath although I had a poke about with a torch! Next stop is to see her in the daylight!

I have tried classic and car and the usual auto-trader and exchange and mart. I am weary of eBay and what they do have tends to be restoration projects which is a bit beyond me at the mo!

Hi CeeLou, keep it up!

I'm not sure about that last one, the text says, "credit crunch foces [sic] sale, has to be sold this week as move forces sale" - well which is it? It's missing some bits of carpet and the trim looks rather saggy.

As a general point, it's worth asking for photos of the engine bay as its general condition can give you an idea of how well the car has been looked after. For your budget you want something which looks honest - a bit scrappy perhaps, but clean and tidy.

thank you - i thought it was odd too that they stated two reasons to move her on and in such a rush!
I have just pm's someone with a car on the for sale section here, apparently she needs her paintwork finishing and some carpet... can't be too hard to do... right?! I'll let you know how I go...

I might get my head bitten off here but if i were you i would stay well clear of e bay and try to get one from here,you have a better chance of finding a good car and someone may be near enough to help you.

Treat ebay as an advertising medium and go look at cars as you would if they were advertised in the local paper etc. DON'T under any circumstances get dragged into bidding for something you haven't looked at in the flesh.... Then you'll be OK

That 66 looks lovely!
If I had any money I'd be biting the chaps arm off for it!

Note the non-standard front seats too. They look much better than the normal ones, higher back, built-in forward tilt.. be interesting to know what they're out of.

I have just noticed the green moggie on the 'sale' section doesn't have any mirrors... can they be added? I assume it is legal to drive without them?!
