English Axles

Post by Kustom »

I have a spare Anglia 105e axle and was thinking about the possibility of fitting it to my traveller - would it by any chance be too narrow for the task?

I looked up the rear track width of both mk1 escorts and 105e anglias online and saw there was 108mm more width on the mk1 escort than on the anglia. Without taking anything apart to see if it would physically fit ... would it be too narrow for the job ? I did notice that the escort and the minor rear track do seem to be very close...! (call this cyber racing instead of bench racing maybe? )

The Escort axle is 54" from flange to flange a couple or so more that the Minor. I always thought that the Anglia and Escort were the same width.

Maybe just a matter of different width drums then? I'll have a measure and post up the width. This would be the measurement taken from one drum backplate to another or am I going totally off?

Anglia is narrower, but I'm not sure by how much.

Yes that is how I measured the Escort axle backplate to backplate.

Size wise it is about right (from memeory about 5mm difference but someone will no doubt correct me). Of course, you will end up with the wrong wheel PCD - but does mean you can use 14" Rostyles and MGB hubs up front would give you disc brakes.....

sorry johnathon but you can't measure backplate to backplate as fords different shaped backplates i.e. offsets

anglia axle is smaller than a 100e axle

sorry morris62, I suppose technically I should say if you remove the backplate or simply measure between the axle flange to backplate mounting faces, this is the dimension that I refer to. :D
