anyone have a picture of a stipped carbe

Post by mick64 »

Handy?

or are they simple to rebuild ,it looks simular to the metro/marina carbe...

unless someone has a better idea...

I have fuel and I have a spark at the plugs and I have squirted petrol in the neck but nothing... :(

The car has been stood since 94 ,there is good compression on each cylinder ...

The timming might not be right ,but I just want a bang pop anything...

Mick..

First thing is that the old fuel has probably gone off, are you using fresh fuel.
Assuming you have already done that are the plugs wet showing that fuel is getting through, I dont seem to be able to upload a diagram for some reason at the moment send me a pm and I will send you one.
Cheers

I've sent you the download for a copy of the Manual - plenty of carb stuff in there. Don't strip it at the moment - just check the piston can rise and fall easily. If you put some petrol down the carb - and it still won't fire, then you are looking at ignition problems. Is the fuel pump ticking ok ? Even without that - it should at least run for a few seconds on raw fuel down the carb.

A couple of simple checks.
Remove the air filter and trunking and lift the carb piston with your finger then allow it to drop. It should hit the bridge with an audible clunk. If it does not then you will have an air gap and you will have an incorrect fuel/air mix for the initial start.
Disconnect the cable from the fuel pump then unscrew the top of the float chamber and check that you have fresh fuel in there. Lift out the float, on later carbs the float is connected to the top, and check for sediment in the bottom of the float chamber and if necessary clean it out with a clean cloth.
Touch the cable to the fuel pump terminal for a second and fuel should pump through to the carb top.
If everything is OK reassemble the carb, connect the fuel pump cable and try again.
If nothing happens a bit more serious stripping down may be required

Stick a set of new plugs in if its been stood that long. They may not fire under compression. Make sure the points are CLEAN. I've been bugged by spark problems, sparks that disappear when you put the plugs in, and found the points were sparking when they wanted, rather than every time. If that sorts it, but only for a short while (maybe minutes) then put a new condensor in, (and clean points again!).

Cracked distributor caps do funny things to the firing order. It can spark on no 1 when 3 is on the bang stroke
