Doors

Post by haggis »

Can anyone advise easy way to adjust the doors on a 2 door convertible.
They are not far away -just catching at the top between the top and the rear window frame.
Can this be done with one person?
Many thanks

IMO its a 2 man job because the doors are so heavy and awkard, especailly if the car is finish painted, as you dont want to chip or scrape it. Before you start get some low tac masking tape and cover up the edges of the door, 1/4 panel edge and wing to prevent any chips.

Be wary also on a convertible incase its started to sag a bit in the middle and is causing this gap to close up.

There are usually shims behind the hinges where they mount on the A pillar. Adding and removing these, top and bottom can usually get a good fit...

Hi Haggis I dont wish to sound negative but is the car nice and sound in the sill area as with convertibles this can be the first sign of weak sills causing the car to drop/bend in the middle, hope I am completely wrong.
Cheers

If the car sags that gap at the top gets bigger, not smaller, doesn't it :-?

Worn hinges can also cause this, try lifting door from rear edge to see if there is freeplay in hinge. If so a replacement should help.It doesn't take much wear to drop the door significantly.
