Accident repairs

Post by Mogwai »

Some of you may already know but In December I had the misfortune to have a transit pull out of a side road in front of me & wrecking the front of my car
The insurance co have now payed me off & i got on with repairing it a few weeks ago. Luckily Ive been allowed to do it at on the ramp at work on Saturday mornings :D & when the boss isn't looking  so here are a few pics of progress made
Image

Image

Image

Image
All the damage was quite high up so the chassis legs were untouched its just bent the flitch, inner wing & the corner of the tie plate where the bumper iron mounts
Image

cut out flitch extension & straightened out the inner wing
Image

Image

Image
This is as far as Ive got at the moment. The intention is to bolt the panels on roughly with the minimum bolts so it can be motd & driven to the painters & easily dismantled again when there for spraying

I'm glad everything is almost back to normal for you. Looking at the pictures, it's hard to believe a transit could have done so much damage.

Good looking repairs,I hope the insurance pay-out was satisfactory as well. Some of them can be very very dodgy with classic cars......

Cheers all
The insurance claim went through smoothly, I have an agreed value policy with footman James which will easily cover the cost of repairs

Are you going to have to ask DVLA for the logbook back etc?

Well done, and saved.
Did you check the water pump was ok. We had a very similar accident repair to do and the pump was wrecked. Also the engine and box had been shunted rearwards onto the steering rack, which in turn bent the floor/bulkhead up.
I'm sure you may have checked, but sometimes these knocks show themselves up in places you do not realise :o :D
Hope the painting goes well

The water pump seems OK bearings quiet & pulley running true but I will be keeping an eye on it for a while
Good point about the rack, its working smoothly with no tight spots I'll double check the mounts tomorrow it did bend the gearbox mount cross member down slightly (flimsy 5speed type)but that straightened out OK
