Help me find out the exact year of manufacture

Post by yiorgos »

Hi everyone
I'm from Cyprus and I have recently bought a morris but it seems that many of it's parts are not the original. They are parts of the morris but i think out of later models.
I really need help to find out exactly what year my morris was manufactured. I'm not even sure if it's a minor or a series II.
I know for sure (i have the papers) that the engine it's not the original. Now it has a morris minor 948cc engine but i think that probably the original was a 803cc. Why? Because the original certificate of registration it says that the first registraton of the car was at 5 March 1957. 50 years ago was very difficult to build a car lets say in January and bring it to Cyprus in March as a new car for registration. So probably it was manufactured in 1956. It has arm trafficators but i think later model back lights and on its trunk is has the minor 1000 sign. I also send some pics of it to help you better
Thank you all

From the pics, 1957 seems entirely plausible. 948 engine is standard fitment for that year. Later Splitscreens had the 803.

Welcome to the forum ! As you say - the rear lights are later than 1958. Looks a very nice car! If you post up the chassis number there are plenty of experts on here who will tell you the manufacturing details.

Do you know the chassis number? If so the year and even the month of manufacture should be easy to identify.

It looks the same colour as my 57 (dark green) which I believe was only available for about 3 years 56-59
Has it still got trafficators fitted? it looks like later lights have been fitted for the flashing indicators

As it's RHD - does that not mean it would have been a personal export ? Possibly by Services personnel ?

There can´t be much doubt about it then...

It´s an early Series III (the first Minor 1000)

Series II production stopped on the 25th of September 1956. Series III started in October. But if you can provide your chassis number it would be a lot easier.

My 1955 (Series II Splitscreen) is FBA11/385***

Your chassis number should be somewhere between:

Chassis numbers: 448801 > 990289

hi there
the larger rear window makes it a 1000. with trafficators before 1961 (in uk) so would have had 948cc engine and the smaller rear lights. chassis number would help pin the date a little better.
