From your pics the car looks failrly solid. Cruical areas are front chassis legs, sills (look under the bolt on covers and also inside along the outer edges of the floors) and the rear spring hangers and mounts. The other scruffy bits are just cosmetic and are no worse than one of mine which has an MOT. Why not take the engine out yourself (to save time and money) and then get a mobile welder around to quote you on the time needed to do whatever welding is needed. All the panels are available relatively cheaply and mobile welders generally charge around £20 and hour. Worse case for about £300 - 400 you could get the car MOT'd and work on the pretty bits at leisue. I think this would be cheaper than buying one already done which would be £1500 upwards.....

Good advice PSL ... also when checking the rusty bits, dont be afraid to prod it pretty hard with a screwdriver ... if jabbing at it puts a hole in there then it needs attention ... I personally keep jabbing and prodding until I find the extent of the corrosion since I'd rather know where the bad bits are than pretend they dont exist.

Mine was in pretty bad shape too but if you work at it methodically - a bit at a time it is fine. I've already replaced or repaired front inner wings, the rear spring chassis rails and spring hangers, floor on one side. As you can see from this picture I'm now starting to work on the front chassis rails, which then will leave cross-member ends and rear arch flanges. Oh, and I guess I better start on all the mechanical bits after that.

well at least you will know what has been done to the car regarding welding and new panels etc
as opposed to buying a restored car that yo do not know really what was done, and many sellers tend to be over zealous on this
