Can anyone tell me which way the water flows from the heater valve?
Does it flow back through the heater pipe to the valve or from the cylinder head up through the valve and into the heater?
The reason I ask is that after fitting a new valve the heater will not work. There seems to be no water flowing out of the heater valve.
I have taken off the heater pipe from the valve and filled it with water using a funnel but still no heat

It comes out of the valve at the top of the engine where the water is hottest, and returns via the water pump to the bottom of the engine. If the new valve is working OK then the most likely problem is the cable isn't adjusted right and it's not pushing the valve all the way open. Try pushing the knob all the way in, then slackening the clamp and pushing the lever as far as it will go before re-tightening it.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Its called self burpingLeo wrote:Thanks Alex for your advice, it must have been an air lock because this morning after warming up the engine the heater worked fine, and the water level in the rad had dropped slightly.
Leaving it overnight has sorted things out
