Before i get any comments, i am not complaining about the temperature!!
Does anyone know offhand when they changed over from brass trunnions on the MM's to the cast steel one's?
The reason i ask is that i am starting to get all the sub assemblies ready for the lowlight and thought as i have the option i might as well do it right
These are the babies .....

They are few and far between these days i would imagine (whatever they are made of!) but as you will see from the picture they do exist!
I was wondering if there was a date or chassis number they were discontinued at?
The car in question is SMM3048 so quite an early one
And that is quite a late one (registered 06/12/1950)

Mines May 1950 and doesnt have brass trunnions, though obviously could have been changed at some point. I have an early MM parts book somewhere, if I can find it it may be listed.
Are the brass ones threaded? I read of a change in Paul Skilleters book to a threaded link, but it doesnt give a date.
Please bear in mind that my car was built up in Holland, so I don't know whether that affects anything...

I would have thought they would last longer as it considered good engineering practice for a 'bearing' to use dissimilar materials - hence bronze bushes on hardened shafts.
At least if the trunnion assembly wears it is less likely to effect the swivel.
None of us here were really old enough (no denying anyone!) to remember when the brass trunnions were still available.
My parents weren't even born for that matter.. or my grandparents married!
