Choke Cable for HS4
Hi everyone,
Just about completed the fitting of my Marina 1300 with LCB, HS4 carb etc but I'm having a small snag with the choke cable(original 948cc item) which is not long enough. The linkages on my HS4 are on the left (i;e front side) of the carb as opposed to the other side on the old HS2 SU. Does anyone have any idea where I can get a longer choke cable that will fit please without a major amount of grief at the dashboard end? (perhaps Marina, Sprite, MGB etc). Many thanks.

Can you not turn the choke operation mech round so it is on the rear part of the carb ? Seem to remember this is possible with HS4 carb ? The return spring then mounting on the front part of the carb. Other possibilty is to secure the outer section of the cable where it ends, and then extend the inner cable as necessary to reach the carb lever. The inner sections of choc-block electrical connectors can be used as the joining piece.

Hmm will have to see what,s fitted to my HS4, just a thought but is it a Marina type HS4 with the float chamber to the front of the car the same as the Moggie or is it a Mini type with the float chamber so that its nearest the bulkhead.
Minispares do different length choke cables so one should fit I think mine is 21A2329.

I will check tomorrow.

HS4 - Issues
Thanks very much to all those who helped me with the choke cable issues-Speedy Cables was a good tip and they are excellent. One further question for the experts out there:
I've fitted the HS4 to a new alloy inlet manifold(for HS4/HIF44)with the standard metal SU spacer and all the necessary gaskets etc and checked that fuel is getting through to the jet assembly OK from the float chamber(which it is) but I just can't get the car to start (or even fire). I'm about to check out the ignition side of things but there doesn't appear to be any fuel getting to the plugs (they certainly aren't wet or flooded anyway) and the interior of the carb looks pretty dry also. Any ideas - this is driving me nuts!!.

Ok, so first check that the pump is delivering fuel. Take the pipe from pump to carb off at the carb end and put it into a jam jar then turn on ignition to see if fuel is been pumped. If not, take the fuel cap off - sometimes the tanks can air lock - then try again. If all else fails, bash the pump body with a hammer (gently) as the ponts make have stuck. If you are getting fuel OK and it's still not starting them move on to electrics.... Come back and let us know.

Just tip some fuel down the carb's throat - a good egg-cup full - then crank it! If it was lack of fuel it will then run - at least for a few seconds. Is the carb piston free to rise - and does it fall back with a nice 'clunk' ?

Choke cable for HS4
Finally fixed my carb problem so thanks to all those who provided advice. The cup full of fuel did the trick and seemed to coax it into life. Car now starts and runs pretty well. More power to the messageboard experts I say.
