I did some measuring today and the rubber engine mount on the engine is 1 1/8" whereas the same mount on the midget engined minor is 7/8", this may be contributing to the height problem.
If i were to buy new rubber mounts and change them it may make the engine slightly lower and the radiator hoses would fit better and starter handle may fit, then again it might not make a difference at all.
I don't have an engine hoist so I'd have to borrow one but do you think it's worth doing?
and how thick should these mounts be on a standard 948 engine?

Well in theory usin 7/8" mounts will drop the engine 1/4" over what you have now. Also, no need for an engine hoist - Jack inder the sump using a flat peice of wood to protect it and you can get just enough lift to change the mounts without disconnecting or removing anything.....

I'm going to have to borrow a friends hoist so that i can take one of the mounts off then lift and swing the engine slightly to the side to slide the other rubber off...happy days

I tried just jacking the engine up and found that as the rubbers are on such and angle you can't just lift them straight out as they have to come out slightly sideways, the way to resolve this problem would be to unbolt the main turret and lift that as it is flat to the floor in the first place so that can then be pulled off on an angle to replace the rubber mount.
As one turret is welded to the floor i can't take it off and with a jack i can't lift the engine on the angle that is needed to simple slide the rubber mount out, hope this makes the my problem clearer..
Anyway, don't worry, I'll get a hoist and all should be fine.

Lift with jack - and use tyre lever under the rubber mount to free it from the turret. The mount we can see is too thick anyway -so you could just cut through it!

Jack is fine in most circumstances for raising the engine. If the engine slips when jacked or when slung, make sure nothing important is under it (hands/ arms / legs etc..)

Finally got it done today, a lot of jigging about but I finally got the old rubbers out and new ones in, however, it seems that these have not made any difference at all
the engine is still too high for the handle to fit.
I managed to get all radiator hoses etc. fitted and got the engine started for the first time in a few months. I'm just going to leave the position problem now as the engine ran well before and it still does now and the car handled fine, it just means I won't be able to start it on the handle.
