Post by shemat »

I've got a core plug gone, its the one behind the dipstick. Please can some of you clever experienced people give me some pointers on replacing it.
Thanks
Matthew

What holds them in then? Are they just interference fit?

Must be completely clean - no rusty bits ! Then fit the new plug in place and hammer the centre (hard) which collapses the convex shape slightly and 'expands' the plug to grip the hole.

Did the engine freeze in the bad weather?

I reckon it must have, its been sat in the garage since Christmas and I've been out today for a play. The core plug had popped out and simply came away in my hand. At least I'll have no problem getting the old one out!

Some people recommend an bit of blue hylomar or similar around the new core plugs but I've always banged them in dry...
