Here's some info about studs and bolts which might come in handy. It refers to the modern ones used where I work, but might also be applicable to older ones.

Part numbers:
The part numbers of a bolt or stud don't just come off the top of a manufactures head, they include all the information needed.

So a part number such as AB 123456 A translates like this:
(AB) (1) (23) (45) (6) (A)

(AB) = type of fastener code

(1) = thread series where 1 is metric coarse, 2 is metric fine, 5 is unified coarse, 6 is unified fine, 7 is BA.

(23) = nominal diameter, so 10 would be 10mm if metric bolt. If not metric then it diameter is in 1/16, so 16 would be 1 inch.

(45) = nominal length. metric in mm, inch in 1/8, and BA in 1/32.

(6) = type of finish.

(A) = suffix where A is thread locking/coating, M is microencapsulation, P is patch locking, H is high temp patch locking, F is fluorocarbon coating for weld bolts and studs.
