Can anyone help regards SVA, SOVA
I was recently looking at some articles on a point system to modified vehicles (other make), and I'm tad concerned that a may have opened a can of worms.
I bought my MM 1000 with a pre 63 plate in the early nintys before SVA etc I replaced all the usual panels, chassis members, leaf springs etc and modified the vehicle using Owen Burtons Manual which you use a lot of Marina parts ie Disc Brakes, 1300 A Series eng and gearbox along with professional modified propshaft and Marina rear axle. The vehicle was submitted for MOT a few years back but had a few issues and has been laid up ever since. I'm concerned having done these modifications that I may have jepordised my number plate retention even though the mods were carried out many years prior to SVA.
I welcome valid comments, Thank you

If the mods pre date SVA requirements, I believe it is not required.
I've never heard of a Minor ending up on a Q plate for having Marina running gear (a very common conversion) but strange things can happen when a book of rules is applied.
If you get the wrong person at DVLA and then don't ask the club to assist it's not unheard of for post production convertibles to end up on a Q-plate when the official methods allow them to keep their plate.

It works like this:-
Unmodified bodyshell or chassis = 5 points
Engine = 1 point
Transmision = 2 points
BOTH axles = 2 points
Suspension = 2 points
Steering = 2 points
If you can score 8 points from the original car, then you get to keep the original reg no.
So if your suspension is Morris Minor along with the steering, you'll be OK, providiing the shell is unmodified. 'Repaired' counts as 'unmodified', only stuff like cut & reshaped bulkheads stars the alrm bells ringing. Not sure were you'd stand on a saloon converted to convertible.
There's a feature in this month's Practical Performance Car, in which they speak to someone form the DVLA.
