Hi Everyone
I have flushed all the rubbish out of my radiator and pipework refilled with water and antifreeze and now the heater just blows cold, I know I will have air in it but how do you get it out.
thanks Bob
Run the engine up to operating temperature so that the thermostat is open, ensure that the heater control valve (the water one) is open, and any air should work its way round to the radiator.
You might have to quickly pull off the heater return pipe to "burp" the system although generally they don't give too much trouble and bleed OK. I also find it beneficial to run it at a fast idle with the rad cap off sometimes to allow any bubbles to fully reach the surface....

It sounds as thought either the heater is blocked or the water control valve is not opening correctly. Try disconnecting the heater hoses from the water control valve and the metal pipe that goes into the bottom radiator hose. Connect one of the heater hoses to a garden hose and flush through until clear water comes out of the other hose. Repeat the other way. This will both flush the heater matrix and also fill the heater with water. Good luck.
Thanks will give it a go, the radiator and the pipe from the cylinder head gets hot it just the others also seem to be getting a bit of muck out of that metal pipe
If anything - a closed thermostat would push even more water through the heater - it could be stuck open ........ But usually - running the engine with the filler cap off - and topping right up to the neck with water, then giving it a few bursts of revs will push the water through the heater - unless the valve is closed of course.
