gearbox woes

Post by callyspoy »

right, unbelievably, the day after i went and collected the fiat bits my gearbox died. quite upsetting as i am not doing the conversion until mid february. The problem i have is...bith first and reverse went awol at the same time. is this normal? it died when i was stationary, i put it in first and it jammed in, had to stall it to get it get it out again. i thought it may have been a clutch problem, but once i got it out it wouldnt stay in first, so i just pulled away in second which was fine, until i got to work and tried to bay park...no reverse!
so...could this be something other then completely chewed up gears? i can't really be bothered to take the gearbox off if i am taking it out in a couple of weeks for good. could it be something in the remote or anything?
cheers in advance

Sounds like problem with 1st gear - it's used for reverse too. You could take the side plate off and have a look inside.

Seconded! Sorry....

I've re-built one of these boxes, not too bad but lots of patience needed!

All the best.... :D

it's not a problem, no rebuilding happening here, too much effort for 2 weeks worth of use!

I'd take it off your hands if you were not in sunny Portsmouth! I don't mind a gearbox rebuild now and then!

Hi Callyspoy,

I think I'm right in saying you have a 1275 engine and nice exhaust in your Minor? If you're flogging them after doing the Fiat conversion I may be interested in one/other/both!
