ducellier distributor

Post by honda90 »

The 1275 Ital engine I am converting to fit in my Series II did not have a distributor when I purchased it. The local motor factors has an old stock ducellier distributor suitable for 1980-82 Ital £40. As opposed to a reconditioned Lucas distributor £65+vat, he says points distributor caps and rotor arms are easy to get hold of and the distributor would be as good as the Lucas. Does anyone know what the reliability of the ducellier are like as it is quite a saving in cost

My view - avoid the Duc dizzy like the plague!
Plenty of dizzies out there - and not expensive (£40 sounds a LOT) - what is the mount on the 1275 engine - original 948/1098 type - or the later 'fork clamp' type ?

I have a Ducellier in my '67 Renault Caravelle. Good, solid distributors if you get one that's tight. Caps and rotor are easy to get (even easier for you UK folks). I made it even better ditching the points & condenser by gutting it and slipping in an aftermarket electronic ignition.
Car runs better than it ever has.
if you are interested, I can give you details of the conversion.
