Wipac quadoptics

Hi People,
time for a lighting upgrade , I'm still on sealed beams at the mo.... are these quadoptics the headlights that have the more curved glass ? (dont like the look of the flat glass jobbies) and do they use an H4 bulb ? aaaand, which headlight bowl should I go for ... 2 screw adjuster or 3 screw adjuster bearing in mind that I'll be going for the left hand drive version lights because I'll be driving on the wrong side of the road (moving to the US soon !! ) Many thanks and happy new year to all...... i have heard good reports withem, i think they are slightly rounded as opposed to totally flat

Wipac Quadoptics are great lights for the price, I have them fitted to both my Minors. They have a good beam pattern and light output and have plastic backs which stop the reflectors from rusting away like a lot of other lights.
I don't know whether they are available in LHD, you will probably have to contact the manufacturers.
They normally take an H4 bulb but you should check on the US lighting regulations.
Also available are plastic headlight bowls which also help prevent rust in the wings.

Yes, the Wipac Quadoptics have a more curved lenses, more closely matching the original sealed beam. There are other halogen conversions that have a flatter lens and don't look right. They use H4 P43t bulbs (supplied in the kit). The only bad news: I've only seen them with left hand dip, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't get them in right hand dip, it's just a question of where.

Thats them, thanks for quick replies, so, do I need a different connector for an H4 bulb ?

Yes, you will need a 3 pin push on connector, enquire when you order the lights.

Depends on the year of your car. The standard 3-pin connector used on sealed beam units for later cars will fit the H4 P34t lamp.

I'm sure you can use the H4 configuration here in the states but you may want to check with the local or state requirement. What part of the states are you moving to? When you get here contact Seven Enterprises web site at http://www.7ent.com and talk with Jack Holdaway he will be able to help you with the lights.
If you are moving close to Washington State look me up.

RH dip Wipacs are sometimes cheap on ebay - not much demand in the UK! You can get extra white (+50%) H4 bulbs (not the daft blue or orange bulbs) which really do make the beams much better.Dunno why they are called 'Quadoptics' - don't see anything 'quad' about them. The very best 7" lights are the Cibie Biodes (used 2 x H1 bulbs in each headlamp) - but sadly hard to find these days.

no no no, don't start throwing cibie biodes, triodes or any other odes into the equasion, after much deliberation I have decided that its going to be quadoptics and will contact our regular suppliers as soon as.....sometimes I just don't trust ebay!!

As I said in the PM the price of the Cibie Biodes at the Classic Car Show made my eyes water. I would be scared to use them in case the lens got chipped.
I once hired a car with a LHD headlight on one side and a RHD headlight on the other. I wondered why I was getting flashed.

I got a set for £11 a few years ago - and they were close enough to collect. I used them on the 54 that went to Africa. They were excellent but we were still glad to be able to follow a freind's car over the Alas hairpins as they had a bank of roof mounted spots.

The Landy that also went to Africa had UK headlights

driving the Atlas hairpin bends with the wrong headlights was a very very very bad move - fortunately I had a 12v hand held spotlight (a present from JustinMinor1000) so my passenger could point it down the road so I could see something! Passenger wasn not happy about his nearly frostbitten fingers but at least we lived through it.

Ahh - were new Cibie Biodes avaialble at the show ? I thought they were long out of production - maybe old stock lamps ?? They are the BEST!

I didn't enquire whether they were old or new, they were just expensive, somewhere over the £250 mark if I remember correctly

Geeeeeeeeeeeeee. Hm. Well - they are rare now, unfortunately, and yes - far too expensive to be stuck out front of the car!
