Thanks to Cam and Gill (and Howard) I am now the proud owner of a 1970 DAF 33 .
She has done 19,277 miles since new and will hopefully be on the road before the end of the year!

Were those photos taken in a storage depot somewhere near Bristol? I thought the car looked a bit familiar (especially as there are not many red DAF vario's about).

Looks lovely - our poor DAF44 is looking shabby again - well, tbh we only reached 'hrm - I suppose it might be roadworthy' - but sitting outside the house isn't doing 'er a lot of good. Still, the spares are ordered now

Kate, yes, one of Howards fleet.
Sorry to hear about your poor 44, I'm sure she'll soon be better again.

And yes these little marvels use belts in their transmission. Very clever really, but then it is Dutch of course.

She's called Isabel.

Don't like the name Mickey much, I do however like the name Isabel very much.

FYI she is named after my much missed early '54 Minor.

Woah, that's cool! At the time, they were mocked for their unusual transmission, but these days lots on manufacturers offer CVT on their smaller cars.
Does make me wonder though, how they came up with such an idea. Was it after an afternoon in one of Amsterdam's infamous "coffee bars"?

Maybe the copied the Mobilette mopeds ?
I've driven both and they are great fun as well as making the best of small engines to good effect.
I even worked in a garage that had a Daf franchise and used the special tool* to change belts

* A 5 foot scaffolding pole with a wider nylon end

It's a really good idea I think.
The 33 only has 30 bhp ( like an original Series II, but can do 75 mph without too much hassle.

Hopefully I will have my first drive on Saturday. Then time for the MOT!

I hope to get them both garaged soon, currently only the Daf is under shelter.
