Brake Failure!!

Post by morrisman1 »

my brakes had, to put it simply, 'been a bitch' for the last while (read half a year). the other day they decieded to give up the ghost completely.

anyway a quick disassemble revealed that on the right hand side there was one leaking cylinder and one siezed cylinder. on the left there was one siezed cylinder and one working cylinder.

i found my ususal car parts supplier had all the necessary replacements in stock! now thats pretty good for little old NZ where morrys arent day-to-day cars. cost me 9 pound each for those italian ones.

the new shoes arrive tomorrow so i should have it all up and running by about mid-day tomorrow. ill have some reliable brakes hopefully, before they failed, i had to steer at about 2-o'clock in order to keep going straight!

anyway, currently im not having any comilications so this is just an update. have a happy new year!

Good luck with it. Probably as well to renew ALL 4 front cylinders and new shoes of course - then carefully inspect/renew the rears too.

i got them finished yesterday. put it all together, have it a flush with new brake fluid and adjusted the pads up. wow, what a difference - i can actually stop. enough said!

Still check the handbrake - it should be able to lock the rear wheels at 20 mph with a good hard pull!

Where did you get the cylinders from? last time I tried to get some here it was a scarey price.
Thanks, John

I would recommend a better brake maintenance program. Brakes are the most important feature on a car and should not be neglected, and definitely not used when known to be poor for half a year!
