Post by Tweedy »

Hi all and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
I am going to put a new Head Gasket on and I am taking the Carburetor off it says in the Manual unscrew the Vacuum Advance but it does not seem to be moving it is covered in a perished rubber and that wont move without crumbling does anyone know how to get it off please.
Thanks Bob

Do you mean it just pulls out of the carburettor or will it split somewhere under the rubber

Yeah, pulled mine off too... it can be tight and the rubber broke. I just took the old one down to my local motor factors and got another one, I also got some tiny jubilee clips to make sure it was nice and air tight. Total cost about 80p. ;)

Vacuum advance

If the rubber is perished you can always use silicon tube. The tube and clips we use for model aircraft tank plumbing can sometimes be very useful. Cable ties can also be of help. I always have some in the car.
Sorry the photo is not the best.

bmcecosse,
Hi Roy
I have found my oil leak, its just at the back of the Thermostat housing and also it runs down in between the Tappet Covers but not a lot.
