How long ago was that and is she stil single?

Andrew
I'm not sure about her relationship status currently. It was about 15 years ago. We met at an Autocar test at MIRA. My mate used to be the editor of Autocar & Motor and we were introduced - It was one of my longer relationships at the time - lasted for about 3 weeks !!!! :o

likes cars, gives reasoned and objective views about them...

No :( they would only pay for damage to the suspension and some paint damage caused by the mounting of a camera. It took him weeks to clean the car afterwards and he said "never again".

Good lord, not a woman! Driving!!! :o
/sarcasm

er, well, yes, when it's Vicki Butler-Henderson. What's not to like? clever, articulate, drives well, likes cars, gives reasoned and objective views about them... and she's jolly attractive :D

I used to watch TG, but don't bother now.

Andrew
I find her whole manner and approach irritating. At least Clarkson admits he's a complete anus, plus he's a lot more entertaining.
Top gear is indeed much more of an entertainment show, and has grown bigger and bigger because of it. Its more of a show for people that like cars and not necessarily those that know about their workings etc. Plus with the advent of the internet, online reviews etc is there really a place for a show like the old style Top gear, i.e. Fifth gear?

Never watch 5th Gear - can't stand the presenters.
Top gear ok, but I find Hammond irritating.

Top Gear Trashes Classics (again)

Post by gje99 »

It does get a little tiring seeing Top Gear trashing classic cars all the time. But apparently this time they were a little responsible - they had two Marinas and actually trashed an unroadworthy, unrestorable car - the beige car (which was apparently quite good) was only used for close ups and then sold on. They also sold the interior from the trashed car before it was burnt. Who knows whether it is true though? Having said that, I think they like provoking classic car owners so I'll stop here before I encourage them! Disastrous as the Marina was, it did prolong the life of the Moggie chassis.
Image
I'm of the opinion that if someone owns something, then it's up to them what they do with it (even if it is our money buying it, though a Marina or two isn't exactly going to break the bank!).

I am personally very glad the Marina ever existed - where else would I have got disc brakes for my mog in the early nineties?!

It can't have been that good a car when people have frequently nicked bits off it to use on it's predecessor though! And it took the British motor industry (along with some other questionable cars) from a huge success to virtual disaster in the seventies, albeit through a fuel crisis and strikes galore.

I wonder what Issigonis thought of the Marina?

I've seen loads of potentially brilliant projects rotting away over the years because the owner has said "I'll get to that one day" when they obviously won't, and then the cars become unsavable. Again, it's each to their own, even if infuriating.

Clarkson is indisputably very arrogant, but in this day and age it gets the viewers and is considered good TV. While the BBC get the figures they'll keep the format. I personally find it more enjoyable to watch than the Top Gear of old, where they just cruised around in cars that most of us will never own and therefore can't get too excited about.

As others have said, we have hundreds of channels (and an 'off' button) for a reason...

Very well put.

I think it best to put this subject to bed before someone gets an earful/banned (myself included).

Ok its a bit childish but the car was as rotten as a pear and I advertised it for free locally and had no interest. It could not have been registered either as the previous owner had unregistered it and there is no way it would pass the strict test and obtain a new logbook.
Pity, as I had fitted a running engine as it was seized when I got it.
It sat in a field for a year and started easily.
(I did keep some parts and the guys at the scrappie took the motor and box.)

No not really. The vehicle had been made to look pretty about 10yrs ago, loads of filler and a good paint job. I purchased a huge pile of minor parts a few years back and have now dumped all but the best bits as space is precious and folk dont really want second hand when all is available New (ish) online.

All wings, doors and boot needed a lot of work/replacement the chassis was really bad I am truly suprised that it did not fold in half when lifted up, but the strength of the shell probably tied it all together.

I kept all the chrome work the engine and box found a home and the planners were happy that I removed a car from a field.

Another thing, not related is that the car I purchased for £1500 a few years back which was really solid yet cost me in parts £825 and took me 18 months to make good was sold by me for £1750. The new buyer spent another £1000 on updates like servo unleaded head etc. and started trying to sell for £3500 and now is asking £1900.

As a boat enthusiast I think the discription of a boat '..a hole in the water that you throw money into' holds true for a classic car.

Love the film.
Sorry about mogonomics - good travellers do well here on the mainland - maybe a summer trip over to a rally might have proved worthwhile - credit crunch or no credit crunch!!
