on a morris 1098 there is no breather on the timing cover, the breater pipe is either on the front tappet chest cover on the left hand side of engine or on the rocker cover

ok thanks its just that I have an oil leak, which looks like its at the top of the timing cover but a lot of people have said check your breather pipes and the one on the tappet chest cover is ok as I have fitted new gaskets to them and cleaned the pipe out.
Thanks Bob

unlikely to be the timing cover , leaks normally at the bottom

it may be an oil leak from the head gasket dropping down on the timing cover,

At first I thought it was the tappet chest covers so replaced the Gaskets then cleaned it all of and then ran her till she got warm and it looks like its coming either from the top of the timing cover but like you say it could be the cylinder head, its at the top at the front of the engine anyway. Thanks Bob

Sure it's not the rocker cover gasket leaking and letting oil drip down ?

Doesn't (sadly) mean that it isn't leaking. Double check that it hasn't bowed in at the middle of the 'long' lengths

If everything else is eliminated - then indeed it could be a leak from the joint in the head gasket where the oil passes through as it travels up to the rocker gear. However I have to say this is quite unusual. So - a good cleaning and then close inspection required. beware the fan if trying to inspect with engine running!

If you are taking the head off - you should take the chance to re-grind the valves.

Of course it is - but you need a valve spring compressor to get the valves out of the head - and a grinding tool, and grinding paste of course. All detailed in the workshop manual!
