Im pat way through my type 9 gearbox conversion on a midget engine (although pretty much everything applies to the other engines too)
Im using a 1098 flywheel redrilled with 6 holes to go on the 1275 cranshaft, and the clutch from a ford sierra. Part no QKT152AF. However the bellhousing may need to be ground out inside because the sierra pressure plate is larger and may foul the bellhousing.
The bellhousing I have is the one piece casting, not the welded sort.
Because I have a hydraulic clutch I have used a 1275 midget fork and a mini hydraulic slave with the midget push rod. The bellhousing needs to be drilled and tapped to do this, the drilling needs to be as near to the opening for the clutch fork as possible without breaking through, or the push rod extending (what im doing). The fork needs to be modified so the ford release bearing and fork can slide along the input shaft without any binding. I have to admit my modification is quite a bodge so im not going to share how i did this... Better mods are avaliable!
The rear gearbox mount is held on with an M12 bolt
The spigot bearing is drifted into the center of the flywheel
And... if you have a (2 piece) marina axle, the front of a late capri axle fits on the marina prop, even the center bearings are interchangeable. The prop appears to be the correct length on my car - but I have a marina axle. Theres a slight problem because there are 2 expansion joints but the center bearing will "push" the prop into the gearbox and even both compressed the prop isnt able to come out of the gearbox
A minor diff would need a very slightly longer prop but the expansion joint may take up the slack. Obviously you need to fit a center bearing using this method.
A standard ford (type 9) speedo cable will fit a marina (and probably other BL cars) speedometer - and the center can be taken from that and fitted into the minor speedo.
