Need Measurements/Dimensions for a Traveller Roof

Post by taylorcorps »

Hi everyone

We recently purchased a 1963 Traveller to use as a quirky van for a florist's business here in Cornwall. He's recently been restored and although we've had a few teething problems he's great fun.

Anyway ... we want to get a sign made for the roof from Ash, and we want it to sit across the arc of the roof (side to side rather than front to back) and fit at the sides like a roofrack. We anticipate it will sit roughly at the line of the front door handles. The sign won't be a permanent fixture; it'll just be fitted when he's parked outside a venue where we're doing a big wedding or function.

However, to commission a carpenter to produce the sign we need the measurements and we can't find them anywhere. Does anyone know what they are? (Not just inches from side to side, but technical measurements such as the degrees of the arc, etc).

Any help or advice greatfully appreciated!

Welcome to the forum - and well done with that idea. You can of course also make removeable signs for the rear side windows. As for the roof profile - can only suggest you take the car along to the carpenter and let him work from it. I have never seen any detail drawings or dimensions of the roof profile. Will your sign not damage the paint ? Maybe better to mount the sign on a traditional roof rack - and just fit it when required.

Another Traveller in Cornwall, Hooray! If the sign is going to accurately follow the roof curve, you're not going to be able to trust a drawing anyway - a template will have to be made to suit your roof or there's too much scope for it looking 'not quite right'!

BTW, where abouts in Cornwall are you? :D

a template can be made from 3mm MDF and then the actual frame can be made on a spindle machine
