But-get rid of the Vauxhall battery for goodness sake!!

They previous owner worked for Vauxhall
It will probably have to be replaced and if it still charges and works, I'll cover it ;)
And i might clean a small part of the engine but I agree it looks good and original being slightly mucky.
We are looking after a classic of my uncle's that is original and looks good with a small cracked bit of leather and not shiny engine

As BMC said, change all the rubber parts, new oil engine, box and axle, new brake shoes and cylinders. A thorough service really.

I thought I would add, this 2dr wasn't my dream of my first Moggie. Whilst on holiday in Cornwall in '07, we frequently passed a white traveller and Mum considered buying it for her business but mr sensible (Dad) said we didn't need it then and being in Cornwall, it was inconvenient and to be honest it was.
Then last year a friend who owns a garage has 3 travellers that his father had collected before his death. My parents then suggested what a fab first car and it grew on me from there. We went to look at them, and they weren't in the best condition, needed restoring, but never went further as the garage needed tidying before we could view them further.

Since around September of this year, I have been seriously looking at one to buy for around £2500-£3000, found a couple but they were either not the best condition, or too far away. Then after joining the MMOC, I saw a very local for sale post for a saloon and after considering the fact that another classic that needs it is in the garage and the wood of the trav wouldn't be kept well outside, we went for it. Even if it wasn't in the best condition, we thought being so local it's worth a look.

That car was Fiona... (excuse the love story style ending)

I would agree about not keeping a Traveller outside, mine spent the last 22 years outside by its previous owner and most of the wood was rotten.

At least it now has a dry garage to live in (shared with a Manta GT/E!)

Oooh a Manta eh?
We're looking after my uncles Series 1 E type DHC. Its a lovely car and what got me into classics. Especially original ones.
Another question, what is the most popular Minor rally. I would love to take part in one of the main annual ones. Anyone?

Most popular rally? Not sure, but the bigger rallies of the year that spring to mind are:
National rally
Website rally
MOT (Minors on Tour in France)
LEO (Lands End to Orkney)
JOGLE (John O'Groats to Lands End)
Roses Run (From Scarborough to Morcambe or vice versa)
...and next year hopefully the MOT UK (Minors on Tour but in the UK rather than France)

There are many excellent rallies and get togethers on a more local level of course, plus many others that I will probably remember as soon as I submit this message

Well I have an update on the car. After only being looked at yesterday, theres been progress. The removed the fuel connector and spray a small amount of fuel into it and it started for a few seconds. Sounds good and no bad knocks etc.
They also replaced the battery and the horn, wipers, and fog lights work but not the other lights. We flicked the switch and the head, side, tail and number plate lights don't work and we don't think they've all blown. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? Broken wire?

Maybe just a fuse or corroded connections at the fuse box. I had a bit of bother here until I cleaned all the connections.

Glad you outed the battery Try the fuse connections first, sounds most likely if all is out. Broken wire- not very likely as they don't usually do anything to break! Get the fuel pump working quick so you can hear it (her sorry) run properly, you'll be ecstatic!

What have you against Vauxhalls? Or is it just a Vaux battery in a Moggy? The new one isn't much better, its blue and something like lighting
They said the fuel pump needs doing but I was ecstatic when it started for those few secs. It was also amazing how quickly it burnt off that spray of fuel.
They're going to look at the lights etc. once its running. If not we can always do it if it isn't too hard.

No fuses on the lights - so look for a loose connection - possibly at the regulator (A1) or at the switch itself. I hope they put some oil down the bores before barging in to start the thing!

Ok thanks. The indicators didnt work until I jiggled the lever a bit and it was fine. Just gotta do the same with the lights. Any idea of the areas where the wire goes and where to look?
