many thanks
the descion was made to take all the original underseal off the inner wings to se what was behind and we found body colour
the underneath still has the original zeibart frpm when the car was bought and this has protected the under side very well
the inner wings and behind the wings was also repainted body colour on top of stone chip along with the reverside of the front and rear valence
2 small local repairs to the rear inner wings was needed, and a small amount of the top flange on the drivers side
the inner wings will get some clear waxoil

I've taken a similar tack, but I've stripped back the entire underside and am going with a galvanising paint and then spraying with used engine oil every six months - it's what my grandad used to do ... ok so its more labour intensive, but oil wont eventually come away from the body and leave a gap for water to sit in ... you wouldnt believe the amount of surface rust there is behind that lovely smooth looking gunk.

On bended knees, Please don't do that! Unless you never take the car out in the rain...alainmoran wrote:and then spraying with used engine oil every six months - it's what my grandad used to do ...
If you do, then the oil comes off as a thin film and sits on the road - lethal for motorbikes, ask me how I know. And it's very bad for the environment to boot, as it gets in the water supply.
No offence - but a very bad idea IMHO! Clear Waxoyle, Dinitrol etc. is the way to go.

Some people are like slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you throw them downstairs.
