RAC Discount?

Interesting. When I asked the AA to stretch my cover so it included the Minor they said they don't cover cars that old.

!!!!!!!!! That's not my experience at all.
I've been rescued in a Minor twice in the last 18 months (on the LEO 2007 with a failed Alternator - got fantastic service) and a few months prior to that was in a different Minor on the M42 with a failed headgasket .
I tried one of the "non top 2" companies and got such dreadful service when an alternator failed on my Volvo (25 miles from home, 1.5 hours in a phone queue, 2 hours to get collected, taken to a depot further away and left for an hour, eventually taken home, charged for the extra mileage to the depot, and finally not allowed off the recovery vehicle as they refused to take a cheque - 9pm breakdown 3am finished

Therefore I vowed never EVER to try to save money on breakdown service again.

I have MMOC RAC cover for full package, all members of the family which covers them for any car they happen to be in. Bit expensive though, I'll have to compare rates at next renewal.
Can't complain about service though. Called them out twice last year for a borrowed Minor. Once on the way to the AGM, he arrived before I had a chance to finish the Minor Matters crossword and fixed a broken tappet adjuster.
The other time was early morning when the dizzy exploded. The recovery was there in 5 mins and towed the car to the local Minor repairs then dropped me off at work nearby.
I don't think I qualified for a dicount this year!

I have had a good experience with the cover that comes bundled with Footman James classic car insurance. The tow truck turned up less than an hour after calling them on a Sunday afternoon and transported it straight home from Wales without any fuss or bother. I think it's provided by AXA.

You save on petrol being on the back of a tow truck. And its faster!!!

One thing to watch is your cover abroad if you are in the habit of doing such things in a Minor

I just renewed the AA cover for my daughter's car - it covers (Roadside only) anyone driving THAT car - and was £23 for the year !! Took a bit of convincing though - but that's the offer they sent her to 'come back' to them after a year off because the new car had built-in recovery from Renault for the first year.
Since on the subject - does anyone have experience of using the RH recovery ??
