Front seat upgrade?

Post by mrmorrisminor »

I am thinking of putting in some 'modern' front seats to a 4 door Mog. Before I head off to the breakers, has anyone got any views/experience as to which would work best? I am expecting a certain amount of modification but wanted to keep this to a minimum.
Thanks.

Lots of discussion on here previously about seats... Use the search facility and you'll find loads... This is one of the most recent jobs done...

You will probably need seat base adapters, available from Newton Commercial or I think JLH.

I have fitted late metro:

And Rover 200:

In 4 door Minors. Both of these options I picked up for less than £30 (fronts and backs) on ebay.

Saab and Fiesta seats also go in.
For all the above you need to fabricate brackets or buy subframes from the likes of JLH.

Peetee, these look surprisingly good in a minor - almost retro!

I really do love those seats you've got Peetee.
Look fantastic and are incredibly comfortable too!

They do have a certain 60's look to them (shame Albert is a '58  )
The diamond stitching actually reminds me of the inside trim in one of the Thunderbirds :D
The colour isn't quite right for a 58. The red shade is somewhere between the maroon and cherokee red of the later vinyl trim.
I picked them up on ebay about a year ago. They still crop up now and again but are becoming increasingly popular as the bidding is getting higher each time.
They are some of the most comfortable seats I have ever tried in any car. The journey back from the national was 4 1/2 hours and I got out of the car fresh as a daisy - and I'm no stranger to aches and pains on a long journey.

The Rover 200 BRM was a pretty rare car IIRC -they couldn't sell many due to price (the car was quite well upgraded so was not cheap) and the orange grille (BRM colours) put many people off :(

I thoroughly appreciated SAAB seats - I had not been expecting them to be much different from any other modern seat but they were far better than average. I only wish I still had that Minor!

You could re-colour them very successfully, as I did with my blue vinyl interior. Especially easy if you're just changing from one shade of read to another.

Woolies will sell you the stuff, and another outfit that I hear good things about is Gliptone (google "Liquid Leather") - these folk to practically nothing other than leather re-colouring and restoration!

Both will do a colour match to a sample.

Just a though! 8)

Cheers Luxobarge. Something I will get round to eventually. Before that is the conversion of the rear seats to match (so all the colour treatment is done together) before that is the 5 speed conversion, before that is the garage doors...blah blah blah

They were bought on ebay so not completely certain but I believe they were from the 200/400 series as shown on this page;

Please be aware that if you have a 2 door Minor these seats will be less than ideal because they don't tip forward. The tipping type are very difficult to find. There was a similar seat fitted in the Metro (which I had fitted in my 2nd Minor and found more comfortable still) but again 2 door Metros with leather seats are rare as hens teeth.
