Boot Rubber seal

Post by rvwp »

Hi all, I am having difficulty with a Boot Rubber, the later type glued to the Boot Lid, purchased from one of the well known suppliers. The problem is that the rubber section is quite hard and there ain't no chance that it will compress enough for the Boot Lid to shut and the catch to close. Any similar problems experienced?
Would an earlier type of Seal which fits to the Body be better?
Thanks Rich

the seal should be able to squash almost totally flat with your thumb (although using a fair bit of pressure).
Over time the lip of the boot leaves a permanent groove in the seal so the force reduces.
With a new seal you may need to adjust the catch and re-adjust when it has given a bit.

However if it's just far to stiff to start with then it's not fit for purpose and you're within your rights to get a refund. Maybe other suppliers have a decent one, so it's worth asking around.

The early type seal (fitted to the car not the boot lid) didn't have any better reputation but if that's the best option you have it should be no problem to convert - however you need to remove all the seal and glue from the bootlid to get a good sealing surface
