A lot of people say they wish to be more involved in the running or the MMOC; There have been several requests for help in Minor Matters over the last couple of years, both for applicants to vacant posts (Treasurer, MM Editor, Regalia,Concours Judge etc) and general help (with National Rally, shows etc)

The adverts always say if anyone is interested in helping out in any way to write to the Committee - normally Chairman John Frye. John and Secretaty Ray Newell are both very approachable people. The post & email addresses (where available) are printed in Minor matters.

As has been said before, not many of the Committee take an active part in this messageboard although they are made aware of various points. Therefore, the best way would seem to be to write in and offer to help. Several people on here have done this with success.

If it is too late for this AGM, talk to the ccommittee afterwards and offer to help in some way, there will still be opportunities available.

Actually I had heard that the Classic Car Show Organiser was stepping down, and so voiced an interest in this position. It now appears that this is not the case.

I also note that the position of Assistant Secretary has not been mentioned.

I'm sure they are, but why not take part rather than relying on information secondhand, which can then be misconstrued?

Hi everyone. As there seems to be some confusion as to what's what, I have sought an explanation and been supplied the following by the Club Secretary:

All vacancies for committee are advertised to the whole of the membership via the Club Magazine, as and when they arise, or a new position becomes necessary. This is done in the interests of ensuring equal opportuniy for ALL members of the MMOC to apply. Subsequently all shortlisted candidates are interviewed. Successful applicants have their appointment ratified at the next available AGM.

In accordance with the constitution 1/3 of the longest serving members of the committee offer themselves for re election at each AGM. So to, do the Directors of the Club. ie Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.

Though it has never happened, in the event of a committee member or Director failing to be re-elected, the position would be advertised to the whole of the membership in accordance with club policy. Nominations for the position would not be taken from the floor of an AGM. To do so would contravene the principle of equal opportunity outlined above.

As a matter of interest three positions have been advertised in the last 18 months. Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and Editor of Minor Matters. Prior to that the position of Regalia Manager was advertised. So to were the positions relating to the management of the Website.

Occasionally the position of Interim Committee member is advertised. This is to encourage new people on to the committee. The thinking behind this is that someone can come on to the committee for one year and gain experience with a view to taking on new responsibilities or making a longer term commitment to the club. The most recent Interim Committee Members were Bill Hewlett and Reg Salway. After their one year term they were both subsequently elected to serve on the full committee. One of these has since resigned from the committee.

Currently there are no vacancies on the National Committee. That is not entirely surprising given the number of new appointments in the last two years.

The normal procedures for ratifying re-election of the longest serving one third of the committee and Directors, as well as the most recent appointments will take place at the AGM. These have already been notified on the Agenda which accompany the accounts.

I trust this is a helpful explanation.

Ray Newell (Secretary MMOC).

Perhaps some further clarification if you wouldn't mind.

Edited - The queries raised here have now been forwarded direct to the Committee.

Cam, thanks very much for the post.

For meeting "junkies" wanting to see the MMOC Constitution do we contact you or the secretary?

Then perhaps you would like to answer the small queries I have raised. My questions are not intended to criticize, in fact Ray's involvement in this discussion is very much appreciated, just clarify certain aspects for myself and possibly other members.

There have been a number of queries raised on here in respect of how members are appointed to the committee. In view of this I wrote to them requesting further information, and have just received their response.

The main query appears to have been how members can vote for someone they want appointed to the committee at the AGM, so I will now explain this.

Normally, positions on the committee are advertised in Minor Matters, and applicants are then interviewed by the committee who make the decision on who is suitable.

However another opportunity is when committee members stand for re-election at the AGM. Even if they are prepared to stand again, if their position is not ratified by those attending the AGM, then their position must be advertised in Minor Matters, and the procedure previously mentioned is set in motion.

In all cases the final decision is that of the committee. The proposing and seconding of potential new members by members cannot be accepted at an AGM.

Should you have any further queries, please send a PM.

Ray Newell is responsible for procedural issues, therefore I'd recommend you go straight for the horses mouth (so to speak). I've raised a number of queries in the past and was pretty satisfied with the answers :D
However Ray's a busy bloke with lots of commitments on top of a day job and many club tasks... therefore not always able to answer by return of post! My queries took a while but I was graced with a face to face meeting - I hadn't been expecting a whole evening for my (one member's) list of questions and gripes, but that's the kind of commitment these guys are giving.

Yes, as always, I would recommend anyone with a query to write directly to the Club. However as agreed by the Committee, if anyone has a problem with this, please PM me and I will forward it to them and advise you of their response.
