Anyone with a 53 peugeot 206 2 litre diesel?
Does an oil light come on when you switch on the ignition and then go off when you start? My book saus there is one the garage think there might not be one!
If only things were as simple as they used to be. When I work on my Peugeot I really do appreciate my minor so much more!

I would assume that there is a light at startup, so you can check that the bulb works...

The Peugeot book says there is an oil and high temp. light combined but nothing shows when the ignition is switched on. The Peugeot garage didn't know if it should. They made enquiries and rang back to say the light only comes on if there is a problem so no way of checking the system. It isn't possible to check the bulbs, apparently there aren't any, which means that if a light doesn't work a new instrument panel is required.
I have had the car 5 years and didn't notice that the light didn't come on so 0 out of 10 for observation!
I noticed this time because after doing an oil change (another sod of a job re. access!) I expected the oil pressure light delay while the new filter filled up which begs the question what did I do on the last oil change?

If there aren't bulbs there must be LEDs which are very unlikely to fail.
Have a look on a Peugeot forum and see what can be done.
There is probably a diagnostic mode you can get to by turning the ignition switch to position 2, push the odometer button for 10 seconds then pulling your right ear lobe for 5 seconds

Last Peugeot I worked on was an earlier -51 version, I'm sure it was the LEFT earlobe you had to pull. Worth trying both just in case.
I've yet to see the car (post 1950!!) that doesn't have a Low Oil Pressure warning light! Best get hold of a Haynes (or a proper manual) from your local Library!
Nowadays cars tend to have a check engine light which covers a multitude of different things.

A quick web search didn't reveal a way to output the state of play without a code reader but there may well be one.
What it did do was put me off the thought of ever buying a Peugeot
My car monitors how dirty the oil is to determine when it will need a service! ( 8 year old car)
Its not normally a big job to pull the instrument cluster from a pug. Involves a few torque 20 screws. Ive worked on plenty of 53 plate pugs and i could be wrong but im sure the dash uses small pea bulbs (LLB 286) that mount in there own holder. They do constantly blow so i normally take out the cluster and check each bulb one at a time across a battery.
You have the service dissplay which also has a level indicater. This can be a little unreliable so check with the stick.
