Dot be, neiver. Sems ma bit daft to me to move something and leave a message (taking up the same space) saying you've done it. I guess PMs are the answer

Surely Andrew, a single line saying. " This post has been moved to -------- section". Can't be as long as the complete thread. Therefore it must take up less space. If you sent PM's you would have to send one to everyone that had posted. Taking up more time.

It would seem to me only polite to ASK the original thread poster if they would MIND if their thread is moved to perhaps a more appropriate section!

I'd argue that it's not the length of the thread that matters, but the fact that one is still evident on the section home page. Never mind - no skin off my nose.
