What is the maximum speed you have had out of a Minor?

Obviously Minors are not a car for speed demons but it is most amusing leaving the corsa/saxo etc brigade behind off the lights!

The most I have had out of my saloon was the time I wound it up past 90 and towards the fuel gauge..

This is a standard 1098 Minor, but with a rebuilt engine. It is the most lively Moggie I have driven. My old Traveller was very slow by comparison despite being a similar year.

That's interesting considering the original top speed when new was aparently a mere 78mph

How steep was the hill?

I checked my Minor speedo against a GPS - it was way out so 90 indicated and 78 actual could be about right if the same as my car.
Personally the most I'd done was around 65mph as 50 / 55 mph is my cruising speed even on motorways in a modern car.

Since mines been on axles stands... errr a big round 0mph. My wife must have hit about 1/2mph in reverse as we were pushing it into the garage.

115mph on a gps, my bottle went, but it would have gone a bit further.

private road obviously.

I think with an under tray and a bit more lightening 120 is poss.

I must say I agree with the bit about saxo's and the like, I love accelerating out of corners and junctions slowly to lull them into thinking its just a slow old granny car and then letting them have it. By the time they have changed down a gear or two I've gone, great fun and doesn't necessarily involve breaking the speed limits either.

Accelerating is not a problem. I worry more about stopping.
I think my best stopping distance from 70 mph was about 600m in a straight line!

91mph on GPS or just over 100 on my speedo

But this is a tweaked 1275 with a 4.11 diff (marina axle) would be better with a 5spd

I managed indicated 87mph in a fairly standard 1098 morris for a fair amount of time followed by sudden loss of power!

Do remember the speed limit in the UK is 70 mph!! Cops may be taking note of these 'confessions' - and may be round to see you all tomorrow! Of course I never exceed 70 mph in my trusty Traveller.

I must admit the speed of my Moggie does surprise me. It can do a lot more than 78 thats for sure.

Having said that, at that speed the Minor is a bit noisy, my Wolseley 1500 on the other hand will sit at 85-90 in relative peace.

I must admit to having a try at this a few times when the 1275 went in but to be honest all it achieved was a few seconds satisfaction followed by mile after mile of a rear view mirror full of plonker shimmying around looking for a chance to overtake.

95 on a track day when we had one at the camp was fun but i had to try to stop , but never again untill sort the brakes out

Unless you provide specifics I don't think you can be nicked for speeding without being actually caught.

Saying "I did 120 in my xyz" is contains nothing that can be convicted on. If however (and this is an example - not something I've done) "I've done 180mph on the M6 in an R8" then there is a slim chance (if they evens see it!) of conviction. I doubt however any copper looking for that kinda thing is going to be looking at the MMOC forum!

and on that subject (on a private road of course!) I've had an indicated 90 out of the currect trav, which with the speedo being out equates to ~72mph on GPS) basicly standard apart from the Hif38 and 13" wheels and the old trav (standard) I *think* we managed to wind up to about 90 as well - that had a far far more accuarte speedo and had a peach of an engine!
