Handbrake colour

Post by psjorge »

Hi!

Not sure if this is the right spot to place this question but here it goes anyway!

Can anyone inform me the correct colour used on the handbrake? I've seen gold, silver and black ones!

My car is an early 1954 Series II, 4 door saloon.

Thanks,
Pedro

I'd say gold. My '54 had a gold coloured handbrake.

Up to v. late SII they were gold - ours is Sept 56 and had a gold one before we changed it to 1098 running.

My MM had a nickel plated lever with a chrome lever release but it had all seen better days so it is now the same colour as the dash - gold!

I'd guess the brown painted one was a '51 era only thing when there was a nickel shortage. At the same time the hubcaps were painted and the MM lost the chromed grill. (I know of one '51 four door that still has body coloured hubcaps which does look a bit odd. I'd guess most have been swapped for shiny ones since).
